Your training programs will appear in your student portal and, depending on which package you purchased, include the following:

Doula Fundamentals & Essential Skills

This course goes with each of the 3 training programs we offer—birth, postpartum, and end-of-life. We recommend starting here.

For Birth Doulas:

  • Childbirth Education Basics
  • Birth Doula Support Skills
  • Breastfeeding Basics for Doulas

For Postpartum Doulas:

  • Become a Postpartum Doula
  • Breastfeeding Basics for Doulas
  • Breastfeeding Support Skills for Doulas

For EOL Doulas:

  • End-of-Life Doula Basics
  • Note: If you purchased the EOLD Basic package, then we will give you access to the "Become an EOLD Training" as one integrated training rather than splitting the materials into two programs (Doula Fundamentals and EOLD Basics).

Access Live Online Workshops

Your chosen training dates appeared on the receipt you received from our system immediately after registering. Please make a note of these. If you need to change your dates, please give us as much advance notice as possible.

NOTE: If you chose the 100% self-paced Business training, we will give you access and notify you as soon as it is released (anticipated Spring 2022).

Preparation for the Workshops

BIRTH DOULAS (variable time to complete pre-work)

Please arrange to have a practice partner on hand for the afternoon session from 2–4pm). We will be demonstrating hands-on comfort measures and providing an opportunity to practice the support techniques and ask questions. This person can be another doula/doula-in-training, a pregnant friend, or anyone of your choosing.

If you are completely new to birth, then it is recommended you complete the Childbirth Education Basics, Modules 2–4 (~15 hours) before the workshop.

Download / Have available for Birth Doula Workshop

We will use this handout in class. You can download it and simply have it open on your computer OR you can print it out if you prefer.

Scope of Practice Exercise

POSTPARTUM DOULAS (no pre-work required)

Join the workshop at any point before, during, or after completing the self-paced modules.

END-OF-LIFE DOULAS (estimated 5 hours of pre-work)

It is not presumed or expected that you will complete all the self-paced materials prior to the workshop though some folks like to do it that way. It is recommended that you complete the following prior to the workshop (estimated time is about 5 hours).

If you are enrolled in the EOLD Basic training program only:

  • Scope of Practice: Read through Lesson 2.2 and complete the Self-Test in Lesson 2.3.
  • Advance Care Planning: Complete Lesson 4.2. If you don't have your own Advance Directive, begin to engage this process. You don't have to have completed everything suggested in this lesson prior to class but it would be good to make a start.
  • Lesson 6. Jot down your impressions and questions on the Case Studies. We will go over these in class.

If you are enrolled in the EOLD program and the Birth and/or Postpartum program, these same materials are located in the Doula Fundamentals & Essential Skills and End-of-Life Doula Basics modules as follows:

  • Doula Fundamentals: Read through Lesson 1.3 and complete the Self-Test in Lesson 1.3c (Saturday & Week 1).
  • EOLD Basics: Read through Module 2. If you don't have your own Advance Directive, begin to engage the process. You don't have to have completed everything suggested in this lesson prior to class but it would be good to make a start. (Saturday or Week 2)
  • EOLD Basics: Read through Module 5 and jot down your impressions and questions regarding the Case Studies (Sunday or Week 3).

Downloads / Have available for EOLD Workshop:

We will use these handouts in class. You simply need to have them open on your computer for class OR you can print them out if you prefer. We have indicated when the handouts will be used based on whether you are taking a Saturday & Sunday weekend workshop or the weekday option offered over three weeks.

  • Identify one goal you have related to the development of your doula business.
  • Complete pp. 1–2 of the Personal Inventory Exercise. The tool is designed to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses (or areas for growth!). Bring your answers to class.
  • Watch the 18-minute video below, Riding the Self-Employment Rollercoaster.

Tech Requirements for Live Workshops on Zoom

  • A reliable internet connection is required. It is recommended that you download the Zoom application on your computer in order to access all the functions we will be using. In addition, you must have audio and video enabled on your computer. Please do this well BEFORE the workshop and get help on your end if you need it. We're generally not able to troubleshoot from our end once class starts.
  • You will not be able to fully participate from a cell phone.
  • We will send you the link to the class on Zoom the day before the workshop begins. That way, it will be easily accessed from your email Inbox. For the EOLD Workshop, it will be a new link each training day.
