Giving Birth & Being Born (7 short videos)

  • Video 1 (14 mins). Features scenes of women laboring and giving birth in a variety of positions, using a number of tools (rope suspended from ceiling, squat "ladder" bar, birth ball, platform bed, birthing stool, etc.). The birth center is located in a hospital in Belgium. Note how the environment is designed to be conducive to physiologic birth. Note also, the limited number of people present at these births. In most cases, just the parents and a midwife. There is a non-clinical feeling to these births, similar to homebirth.
  • Video 2 (<1 min). The baby's skull.
  • Video 3 (7 mins). Animation showing the maternal pelvis (inlet, mid-pelvis, outlet); the uterus (body, neck or cervix) vagina (or birth canal); Braxton-Hicks contractions; prostaglandins.
  • Video 4 (<1 min). Uterine ligaments; dilation and descent.
  • Video 5 (<1 min). Movement in labor.
  • Video 6 (6 mins). 2nd stage of labor, with animation; heart changes in the newborn.
  • Video 7 (<1 min). Delivery of the placenta, with animation.
