Big Announcement! Two become one.
Center for the Childbearing Year, Michigan’s premier birth and postpartum doula training center, has become part of Lifespan Doulas with the launch of our new website. Lifespan Doulas, founded by Merilynne Rush and Patty Brennan in 2016, has been offering end-of-life doula training and certification. Now, we are offering in-person doula training for the lifespan — support from birth through death.
For the end-of-life folks who have been following us, Lifespan Doulas’ end-of-life doula training, certification process, educational programs and mentoring all continue as before. We have simply upgraded our infrastructure and streamlined our administrative processes to better serve you.
With this merger, we intend to focus on moving the entire doula profession forward. Business development, aimed at helping newly trained doulas find their way to sustainable careers, is a key aspect of the newly combined businesses. While adhering to core principles of what it means to be a doula, there is a great deal of room for innovation to develop doula businesses and programs that meet the needs of families, throughout the lifespan, in communities throughout the U.S. and beyond. What are the core principles?
- Non-medical support
- Non-judgmental support
- Family-centered approach
- Holistic care
- Doulas as support team members
